In its fourth year, the annual awards program honors technologies and companies that drive innovation and exemplify the best in educational technology solutions. Realityworks’ Bariatric Nursing Manikin was selected by a panel of EdTech industry experts for its innovation, design and user experience.

Weighing about 100 pounds, Realityworks’ Bariatric Nursing Manikin simulates a 350-pound male patient. Students can use the manikin to prepare for the unique challenges associated with bariatric or obese patient care, such as patient transfer and lifting, ambulation and perineal care. The articulating joints move realistically so students can practice identifying and caring for pressure injuries. The weighted pannus and pendulous breasts can be lifted so students can practice identifying and caring for skin conditions commonly associated with skin folds, such as eczema and dermatitis.
To save instructors’ time, Realityworks’ Bariatric Nursing Manikin includes online access to slide presentations and downloadable curriculum. Lessons address ambulation, basic patient care, patient transfer and lifting, pressure injuries, range of motion exercises, and skin conditions. It also comes with student activities and assessments.
