Canine Auscultation Trainer Curriculum Overview
Canine Auscultation Trainer features:
How can I use the trainer and app with my students?
The app allows users to select individual sounds to play in their respective locations, as well as which conditions to implement in an assessment scenario. Students can conduct independent practice with the trainer, and instructors can use the app to edit the assessment mode and create desired scenarios for student testing.
What is the difference between practice and assessment mode?
In practice mode, you choose the scenario you want the user to practice, and they hear the sounds relevant to that condition when they place their stethoscope over the corresponding auscultation site on the trainer. Unrelated sounds (such as lung sounds during a cardiac scenario) will not be played. The app also allows users to see where they should place the stethoscope to hear the sounds.
In assessment mode, users will hear anatomically appropriate sounds wherever they place their stethoscope (lung, heart, or bowel sounds) and they are challenged to identify and diagnose the scenario or condition.
What comes with the app?
The app includes a library of heart, lung, and bowel sounds. Those sounds are divided into “practice” and “assessment” modes. In practice mode, students only hear sounds associated with the selected condition. In assessment mode, students hear the sounds selected by the instructor. Practice mode also includes diagrams of where to place the stethoscope to hear certain sounds and descriptions of what conditions the sound might indicate.
How does the RealityScope™ attachment work?
The RealityScope attachment fits on any stethoscope and communicates with the included smart device via Bluetooth technology. When users place the RealityScope attachment over corresponding auscultation sites on the trainer, they can hear the correct heart, lung, or bowel sound. Instructors can use the app to control which sounds the students are listening to.

Do I need a stethoscope to use the Canine Auscultation Trainer?
Because the sound emitting from the RealityScope attachment is designed to be amplified through a stethoscope, we recommend students use their stethoscope with the trainer to ensure realistic practice sessions.
Dual-Head Stethoscope 10-Packs can be purchased from Realityworks.

Dr. Diane M –
We were excited to put some new clinical simulators to use this semester! Our auscultation simulators not only teach the students what normal heart, lung, and GI sounds are like, they also teach the correct placement of your stethoscope to hear clearly, and what abnormal conditions sound like. We have also already got to work learning IV catheter placement!
