Did you know that the RealCare Baby Communication Adaptor (formerly known as an Xstick) is not a memory stick?
Even though the Communication Adaptor looks like a memory stick, it is actually a communication device. It sends and receives data between your RealCare® Control Center Software and your RealCare Baby® infant simulators.
In fact, it allows you to wirelessly:
- Track care events, abuse, surrounding temperatures, time in a car seat and clothing changes
- Customize simulations using schedules based on real infants
- Program up to 100 Babies, up to 7 days in advance
- Receive and print detailed assessment reports
The Communication Adaptor does not contain any software for you to install. In order for it to function, you will need to first install the Control Center software from our website. (Need to do this now? Click here to go directly to the RealCare Baby support page. Once there, you can click on the box for either Windows or Mac to install the Control Center software.

My names Tiffany and I just purchased a RealCare baby my question is do I have to have an x stick in order for the baby to work?
Thanks for asking, Tiffany! Yes, the Communication Adaptor is what sends and receives data between your RealCare® Control Center Software and your RealCare Baby® infant simulator, which, in turn, enables the tracking of care events, scheduling simulations, programming and more.
Will a newer baby that was purchased a year after the original 3 babies work with the same Xstick?
A new X-stick was not provided when we purchased the 4th baby. We assumed it would work with the original X-stick.
Why is the new baby not programming with the current X-stick?
Thanks
Thank you for your comment, Jenn! I am going to pass it along to our product support team, who will reach out to you with an answer. Thanks so much for asking!
Hello again, Jenn! You’ve probably heard from our product support team by now but I wanted to post their initial reply here as well. According to our support experts, “your Babies would not have come with a new Stick automatically. This is for two main reasons. Any number of Babies can be programmed onto one Communication Adapter. And any version of Baby that plugs in to charge will work with any version of the wireless. So no matter if it is the Comm Pod, the X-Stick, or the new Communication Adapter, any one of them can be used to program any version of the RealCare Baby 2-plus or 3.”
Of course, you may reach out to them directly with any questions! Productsupport@realityworks.com, 1-800-830-1416 or live chat on our website. Thanks again!

Does the stick have to stay plugged into my computer while the students have them over the weekend and if it does, will it skew the results if it was not plugged in.
That’s a great question, Ann-Marie! I’m going to forward your inquiry to our Product Support Team, who will contact you with an answer 🙂 If you have any questions in the meantime, you can contact us at information@realityworks.com or 800-830-1416. Thank you!
Ann-Marie, I received this response from our product support team. Please feel free to contact us if you have any additional question! 🙂
From our product support team:
“Once your RealCare Babies have been programmed, they will run independently from your computer. When the Baby is returned after the simulation has ended, the report will automatically download into your Class Folder. Therefore, feel free to unplug your communication adapter and shutdown your computer for a relaxing weekend. After all you’ve earned it.”
Thanks again!
