Today’s students love hands-on learning activities. And research shows that they work. Generation Z students, born between 1990 and mid-2010, learn best through the fully immersive experiences that hands-on learning provides.
It’s no surprise that today’s educators are working hard to incorporate hands-on learning activities into their classrooms. Just look at these examples, which we found on social media recently. We asked each instructor what they value about their featured tools. Keep reading to learn what they told us — and why they prioritize this teaching methodology.
From @mrsvaldez_fcs, a Family & Consumer Sciences teacher who uses our Birth Model Set:
‘Using the birth models as a teaching aid was a wonderful visual for my high school students to actually see the stages of labor. These models engaged students on a deeper level and helped my labor lesson become more “real.”‘
From Mrs. Hoover (@HGParkinsonFFA), who uses our Plant Producer Educational Hydroponics System:
“The Realityworks hydroponics units have been a great asset to our classroom! I gave my horticulture class the instruction book and let them figure it out on their own. They have taken such great ownership over the units. We were able to supply lettuce to the cafeteria twice last month.”
From @cwfamilystudies, who uses RealCare Baby® Infant Simulators:
“At CWDHS in Fergus, the RealCare Baby allows students to understand the sacrifices and challenges it takes to be a parent of a newborn baby. Although many students get attached to the baby, ultimately they realize that now is not the time to have a baby and they need to wait until they are much older.”
From the @carolinems_ffa, which uses our RealCareer™ Electrical Wiring Kit:
“With the Realityworks Electrical Kit, students were able to take notes and images on wiring an outlet and turn it into hands-on work with results. They later got to dive deeper into the kit’s ability and try to make a light bulb work with a light switch and even succeeded.”
From the @nva_ffa, which uses our Canine Vet Trainer:
“The Canine Veterinary Trainer has been a fantastic asset to our animal science classroom. Most recently students in Small Animal Care were learning about the urinary system and were able to practice bladder palpation and male catheterization in a classroom setting!”
From @ms_essick, who uses our Hemiplegia Simulator:
“We used the Hemiplegia Simulation Kit after learning about brain injuries during our unit on the Nervous System. During this activity, students had the opportunity to experience the challenges patients face while performing activities of everyday life who have suffered this type of injury. This Simulation Kit is not only a fun, hands-on activity, but helps build empathy, a skill that is much needed in the medical field.”
From Avon Park High Vet Tech Teacher Megan Foster (@SBHCCTE), who uses our Bovine Breeder™ artificial insemination simulator and Bovine Fetal Development Models:
“Realityworks’ tools make a significant connection in my students learning. They are now able to be hands-on with different learning models.”
BONUS POST, from @redlandscougars, who use our Knee and Ankle Sports Injury Assessment Trainer:
“Our Director of Institutional and Student Compliance and licensed athletic trainer Eli Zucksworth uses @realityworksinc technology in his sports injuries class to show what knee and ankle injuries feel like using this life-like tool.”
