3 Reasons Our Butcher Beef Cut Models Are Unique, From An Engineer Who Helped Create Them

Join our email listNate Mullen is a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Realityworks. Along with a team of other incredibly talented engineers, Nate helped create our Butcher Beef Cut Models, a set of 21 magnetized meat cuts that represent popular cuts of beef.

Nate worked closely with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to ensure these models aligned closely to what educators are teaching in the field. Thanks to this collaboration, our Butcher Beef Cuts accurately portray the correct patterns of meat and fat sections, along with bones, cartilage and everything else you’d see on a real beef carcass.

We recently asked Nate what makes our Butcher Beef Cut Models unique. Here’s what he told us:

3 Reasons Our Butcher Beef Cut Models Are Unique

As Nate explains in this video, conversations with SMEs helped us understand the importance of 3 specific features, which Nate and his team worked hard to ensure our models had:

  • They look real. You know you have a good model when the students buy into it. How can you tell? They like it; they might even say how cool (or gross) it looks and they treat it like real anatomy. In this case, each loin, round, rib and chuck breaks into smaller, equally detailed beef cuts. This helps students develop an even better understanding of how to cut and prep different meat cuts.
  • The models and the artwork match. As this Texas teacher recently told us, lesson plans that accurately portray the learning aids used in class help students follow along and make important connections. Unfortunately, that is not often the case. But these Butcher Beef Cut Models include designed to match the content teachers are actually teaching. With these models, teachers no longer need to purchase specific pieces of meat from a butcher to use in their classroom one time – and which may not even align to the lesson.
  • They are convenient. With these models, teachers no longer need to purchase specific pieces of meat from a butcher to use in their classroom one time – and which may not even align to the lesson. Instead, these models can be kept out after the lesson concludes as conversation-starters among students. It can be used repeatedly, saving teachers time and money. You may even discover room in your budget for new learning opportunities.
