Over the past 20 years, our pregnancy simulator has helped students understand what it’s like to experience the third trimester of pregnancy. This year, we’ve updated the Pregnancy Profile® 2.0 Simulator to increase its classroom impact as well as released an obstetric version for health science education. Let’s explore the new features and updates we’ve made to this unique teaching tool.
“The power of an immersive wearable simulation experience to walk in the shoes of an expectant parent is engaging and memorable,” said Denise DuBois, Realityworks FCS Senior Product Manager. “We wanted to keep all of the things that make the Pregnancy Profile Simulation experience so powerful. However, we wanted to make it even better and more realistic. We also wanted to focus on using this resource to teach transferable career skills and foundational knowledge.”
Transparent Amniotic Sac
If you’ve worked with our previous pregnancy simulator, you may be familiar with the black water bladder inserted into the simulator’s vest. The new simulator features a transparent amniotic sac in its place for added realism. The new sac has a zippered opening, making it easier to fill and clean. In addition, you can place the new fetal insert into the sac for an even more lifelike experience.
Realistic Fetal Insert
Instead of a free-floating ball, you can now place a fetal insert in the amniotic sac. Each pregnancy simulator comes with a 30-week fetal insert that is a realistic size and made of soft, skin-like material. The Pregnancy Profile 2.0 Obstetric Simulator comes with an additional 38-week fetal insert.
Unique Classroom Posters
Each simulator comes with its own unique classroom poster. The Pregnancy Profile 2.0 Simulator includes a Fetal Development Poster that illustrates the development of a fetus during different weeks of pregnancy. The obstetric version of the pregnancy simulator comes with a poster that details how to perform Leopold’s maneuvers.

Updated Curriculum
Each pregnancy simulator comes with an updated 12-lesson curriculum written by subject matter experts. We’ve refreshed some of the popular lessons from the previous curriculum, such as physical changes of pregnancy, pregnancy symptoms and discomforts, and fetal development. We’ve also added new lessons on topics such as careers exploration, pregnancy risks to mother and child, and healthy lifestyle in pregnancy.
Fetal Heartbeat Auscultation
With the obstetric version of the pregnancy simulator, you will receive four fetal heartbeat audio cards and two RealityScopes. You can place the cards in the simulator and attach the RealityScopes to a stethoscope to hear a normal fetal heartbeat at 30 weeks and 38 weeks, tachycardia, and bradycardia.
Leopold’s Maneuvers Practice
As mentioned above, the obstetric version comes with a 38-week fetal insert in addition to the 30-week insert and a Leopold’s Maneuvers Poster. This is so students can get hands-on practice performing Leopold’s maneuvers.
