Eau Claire, Wis. (April 1, 2024) – Realityworks, Inc., a leader in experiential learning solutions, is excited to announce that its Knee and Ankle Sports Injury Assessment Trainer was named a New Product Finalist by the 2024 EdTech Cool Tool Awards. In its 14th year, the annual awards program is the world’s largest for education technology, spotlighting cool tools, inspiring leaders and innovative trendsetters across the K-12, Higher Education, and Skills and Workforce sectors. Realityworks’ Knee and Ankle Sports Injury Assessment Trainer was judged on criteria including its pedagogical workability, efficacy and results.
“We’re proud to be recognized for our internally developed Knee and Ankle Sports Injury Assessment Trainer,” said Timm Boettcher, Realityworks President and CEO. “By simulating common sports-related injuries, this one-of-a-kind trainer allows students to develop their assessment and diagnostic skills, providing them with hands-on experiences necessary to succeed in the workforce.”
Realityworks’ Knee and Ankle Sports Injury Assessment Trainer features articulating joints and muscles that give students hands-on practice assessing a variety of common ligament and tendon tears. A dial enables users to customize the degree of the injury’s impact for added realism. Students can evaluate three different knee injuries and four ankle injuries: ACL, MCL, LCL, ATFL, CFL, deltoid ligament, and Achilles tendon. The model can be flipped upside down, sideways, and off the edge of the table to practice different injury evaluations – as opposed to performing diagnostic tests on uninjured peers, or injured athletes.
To enhance implementation, this trainer comes with standards-based curriculum that provides two to three hours of classroom instruction. It features two lessons on knee and ankle injuries, presentation slides, and pre- and post-assessments. This curriculum aligns to the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Secondary Schools Sports Medicine Course Outline.
This is the second year in a row that Realityworks’ Knee and Ankle Sports Injury Assessment Trainer has been recognized for its impact on education; in 2023, the trainer was named the Career Readiness Solution of the Year by the EdTech Breakthrough Awards.
“This acknowledgment underscores our commitment to providing educational solutions that empower students to develop essential skills for future careers,” said Molly Kellgren, PhD, RN, Health Science Education Product Manager for Realityworks. “With this trainer, students can practice fundamental skills safely and consistently – without the risk of injury to anyone – and develop the confidence they need to succeed.”
Realityworks’ Knee and Ankle Sports Injury Assessment Trainer joins a growing line of hands-on training tools for health science and sports medicine programs. For more information on Realityworks’ products and programs, visit realityworks.com.
