Practicing athletic trainers are expected to treat lower extremity injuries despite not always being exposed to those situations in school. To help solve this problem, we created the Lower Extremity Dislocation Trainer, a new hands-on tool for teaching sports medicine. Let’s explore the engaging features of this unique learning aid and hear about its importance from an expert.
Assess and Relocate 4 Lower Extremity Injuries
The Lower Extremity Dislocation Trainer allows students to assess and practice proper technique for relocating a lateral dislocation of the patella, medial dislocation of the patella, posterior dislocation of the ankle, and anterior dislocation of the ankle. The trainer looks and feels like a real leg with fully articulating joints at the patella and ankle.
Save Time with Ready-to-Use Curriculum
This trainer comes with downloadable curriculum that features two lessons on lower extremity injuries. One lesson covers patellar dislocations, and the other is all about ankle dislocations. You can teach the entire curriculum within two to three hours or select lessons and activities that best fit your class. The curriculum also includes presentation slides, student activities, and pre- and post-assessments.

Hear Feedback from an Expert
We spoke with Eli Zucksworth, a nationally certified and licensed athletic trainer, about this tool as well as our other sports medicine trainers. A couple years ago, Zucksworth started using our Knee and Ankle Sports Injury Assessment Trainer in classes he teaches at Redlands Community College in El Reno, Oklahoma. After his success with that trainer, he was excited to get his hands on the dislocation trainer.
“It is very important for [students] to have [sports injury] skills, especially the hands-on skills, for whenever they graduate and move on. A lot students aren’t able to get the hands-on experience, especially with certain injuries, until there is one,” said Zucksworth. “Being able to [practice the skills] on demand and not have to wait for the inopportune time for that injury to show up to be able to show somebody is definitely helpful.”

“[This trainer] definitely does give me a tool and a resource to bring to the classroom a reality, especially whenever you’re working on scenarios or if you’re working on an evaluation,” stated Zucksworth. “I can manipulate the products into a way that the students have to figure out what the evaluation or diagnosis should be.”
