Does Realityworks collect data from RealCare Baby simulations?
-
All data is stored locally, and Realityworks has no access to user information. The Control Center Software is locally installed and maintains a Data, HEX File, and CommLog.csv file on the client’s computer.
-
When programming a Baby for a simulation, the instructor will enter a student’s name. This will only be recorded and saved to that locally stored “Data” file.
How many Babies would you recommend for a 20-student classroom?
It depends on your budget and how you want to implement the simulator. In general, we recommend five Babies for a 20-student classroom.
What other program support do you provide?
Can I use RealCare Baby 3 and RealCare Baby 4 at the same time in my classroom?
Yes! RealCare Baby 4 is designed to work seamlessly alongside RealCare Baby 3. With a few small adjustments to your assignments or grading, you can provide meaningful, equitable experiences for all students — no matter which Baby they use
I currently have RealCare Baby 3 in my classroom. Are the RealCare Baby 4 accessories compatible?
Yes! The blanket, diapers, bottle, and car seat all work with both versions of Baby. RealCare Baby 4 comes with these new accessories: tummy time blanket and toy.
What’s the difference between RealCare Baby 3 and 4?
RealCare Baby 4 has an additional care event, play time, and connects to Control Center and Student IDs via bluetooth. It also can track tummy time and how often students talk to their Baby. It will even babble back when students talk to it! Additionally, more features are available for RealCare Baby 4 on the student app, such as real-time simulation progress tracking. Check out our comparison chart for a full breakdown.
If I already use RealCare Baby 3, do I need to purchase a new Starter Kit for RealCare Baby 4?
No! You will not need to purchase an additional Starter Kit if you already have a RealCare Baby 3 program.
I already have the RealCare Control Center Software on my computer. Will the software work with RealCare Baby 4?
Yes! Our RealCare Control Center Software works with both RealCare Baby 3 and RealCare Baby 4. If you’re adding new RealCare Baby 4s to your program, simply download the most recent version of the software here.
Do I need to update my curriculum to use RealCare Baby 4?
Not at all. The core RealCare Baby curriculum is compatible with both Baby 3 and Baby 4. If you’re using the Basic Infant Care or Healthy Life Choices for Middle School Students curriculum, you may want to explore the updated versions included with Baby 4 — but your existing content still works.
Can my students still use the RealCare Baby Guide app if they’re assigned a Baby 3?
Yes! The RealCare Baby Guide app works with both models. While Baby 4 users get additional tools like real-time simulation feedback, all students can use the app to complete scenarios, submit notes, and reflect on their experience.

There is truly nothing that I could have done that made more of an impact than these Real Care babies. It is the most realistic, fun way to engage kids…even those who aren’t as enthusiastic about Child Development! My male students, who had never handled a baby and knew nothing about their care or even how to hold them, were asking to hold babies extra days after their take home experience. These are a MUST if you want to get kids as close to the real thing as possible.
Sarah W. –
I can teach kids many different ways to take care of a baby and what babies are like. But sending them home with a robot that actually needs to be cared for is infinitely invaluable.
Deanna Giovingo –
The RealCare Baby 3 infant simulator is an exceptional educational tool used in our child development course, offering students a hands-on, realistic simulation of infant care. As a computerized infant simulator, it provides a powerful experience that helps students better understand the responsibilities and challenges of caring for a newborn. From an educational standpoint, the RealCare Baby 3 excels in creating real-world scenarios. The baby cries for care at unpredictable intervals, requiring feeding, burping, diaper changes, rocking, and proper positioning—just like a real infant. It’s also equipped with sensors that monitor how the student responds to these needs, ensuring accountability and allowing for detailed performance feedback through downloadable reports. One of the most effective aspects of the simulator is how it builds empathy and time management skills. Students quickly learn how demanding and constant infant care can be, even overnight. The baby is heavy enough to feel realistic, and its lifelike sounds and responses make the experience very immersive.
Julie Truesdell –
The RealCare Baby 3 has given my students the opportunity to get a quick but realistic snapshot of what life as a teen parent would be like. There are 15 different programs that can be set, each modeled after a real baby and the journal that its parents kept about its care. There are several ways to customize care to be sensitive to individual student needs while still creating a meaningful learning opportunity. Programming is a snap, and grades are quick and easy to access. I especially like the printed grade report that each student receives after care – the details on it are extraordinary. The technical support staff is incredibly helpful, too. My students look forward to this project each year, and it never disappoints! So many wonderful lessons have been learned in my classroom thanks to the RealCare Baby program!
Treva Daniels-Carlson –
I have used RealCare infant simulators for some years now. Last spring, I was able to trade them in and get even more, along with other materials. I love the new software and tracking improvements.
Aliyah Anderson –
This baby is perfect for all my students! I think it is a great way to teach them how to be parents and how to have patience and tolerance for it. We went over a lesson about shaken baby syndrome and I think going through that first helped. The babies are really sensitive though haha. I think it would be better if it wasn’t as sensitive. Also all the babies are set up differently so some of them cry for hours on end and non of my students get sleep, but they are Jr.High students so they don’t sleep anyways! I will keep using these babies as long as I teach!
Franzen Crosby –
I am really impressed by how advanced and innovative the RealCare Baby 3 simulator works! Having graduated high school more than ten years ago, I never got to take part in any kind of simulation experience.To-day, I am a team member of a nonprofit organisation whose mission is to help adults and families with mental illness learn and reinforce skills that they may have forgotten. We would be really interested in knowing if you have any resources for materials geared towards this population. I understand most of your materials are primarily aimed at junior/middle school and high school students, but I also think college-aged and new/first-time adult parents who are anxious about bringing a baby into the world could really benefit from this programme, as well!
Abigael Bowen –
I love my RealCare Infants and so do my students! They are such an engaging way to get students connecting with an infant or childcare unit. Consistently, my students take their time with the RealCare Infants more seriously than they take any of our other projects throughout the year. They see the connection to their future and want to be prepared!
Holly Willingham –
This is a great product that I have been using for the past 15 years. IFrom diaper changes to feedings, every interaction provides a hands-on lesson in nurturing and responsibility, fostering empathy, patience, and critical thinking skills. The comprehensive feedback system enhances learning by providing detailed reports on caregiving performance, while its durability ensures reliability for repeated educational use. Whether you’re a student, educator, or soon-to-be parent, RealCare Baby is not just a tool but an investment in understanding and preparing for the responsibilities of childcare with unmatched realism and effectiveness.
Nichola St. James –
As a FCS teacher who is new to this, I really really like these babies. They are easy to program from the instructor side and do a good job of showing students the demands of a newborn infant. I like the carseat detector for temperature and amount of time in the carseat. I also like how you can choose the set schedule hard medium or easy. I wish there was more flexibility with altering the schedule once programed to accommodate issues that arise while they are home with assigned students. Also I wish that the set came with some extra items as we are already having to order more diapers and participant ID tags that were somehow misplaced. Overall great experience! The kids love them.
Marissa Rebischke –
I have been using the Real Care Babies and their predecessors for 15 years. The products work great and provide an invaluable experience for my students. Kids can’t WAIT to take my class “with the babies.” The computer interface is easy to use and I love the printed reports. Anytime I have needed customer support they have been extremely helpful. I will defiantly continue to purchase and upgrade these products for as long as I am teaching!
Kaylee Blade –
The RealCare Baby 3 has been an amazing resource to have in my child development class. My students love having the opportunity to get a taste of parenthood for a weekend with the RealCare Baby. It is so easy to program and I love the feedback that it gives me for each student. I highly recommend the RealCare babies!
Tammy L –
I have been using the Real Care babies in my Child Development class now for over 10 years. I just recently purchased a few new babies & have been very satisfied with everything. The customer service is excellent, the products work great, & I feel it’s a really beneficial project for students to do. I really like the attention to detail in the reports that can be run to show the students how they did after their simulation period ends. My students really love (& hate – lol!) the experience of taking a baby home. I believe the simulation is as close as it gets to being a teen parent & really shows my students the harsh reality of the constant time, care, & work that a baby requires. I would recommend the Real Care Babies to any FCS classroom that teaches any type of Child Development or a Parenting class!
Sara Gdula –
I have used the RealCare Baby products over the past 15 years as a Family & Consumer Sciences teacher. They are easily one of mine and my students favorite parts of class. Sending babies home for the weekend allows students to experience a life-like, hands-on infant care experience. They often come back telling me while it was difficult they appreciate the experience and realize how they are not quite ready for kids anytime soon. Parent feedback is always positive and appreciative of such a wonderful program.
Jodi Bays –
The RealCare Baby Infant Simulators are a great way to teach students about taking care of a baby. They give students a hands-on experience with what it’s like to be a parent. Over a weekend project, students learn how hard parenting can be and often come back saying they don’t want kids anytime soon.
Parents love the program, and students find it really valuable. The reports from the simulators show how well they did and make the experience even better. This is such a useful program that it feels like every high school student should try it!
Carla Walz –
These babies are incredible! The excitement of my high school students is next level! They get a real life experience in the timespan of a couple days. I love that I can set the babies’ sensitivity level to correspond to my own students’ needs! I will have 38 students who will benefit from using these simulators plus more in the years to come!
Melinda B –
As a teacher in an alternative high school, I appreciate the real life learning the Real Care Baby Program simulates for students. With the baby, plus instruction, students get an understanding of all that is required of a parent- diapers, feedings sleep disruption, the amount of hands-on an infant requires. And, students are enthused about the program. It is a pleasure to be able to bring students a quality experience with the Real Care babies. 5 stars!
Kathy Werner –
I have used Baby Think Over for well over 30 years. As a matter of fact, I am sure that my first babies are grandparents by now. Remember turning the key and having to hold the key while you took care of the baby…it was awful! My new babies are so much more advanced. My students and I both love the readout. They instantly know how they did and what grade they will be getting. It allows my students a picture of what parenting might be like for them. The thing that I love most is the discussion that is prompted by this experience. Students see that being a parent can be challenging and waiting to make that decision could be in their best interest. Thank you Realityworks!
Michaela –
RealCare Babies are a valuable learning tool in my classroom. They teach students so much about the demands a newborn has and how they need to be attended to. My students are always excited for the RealCare babies to be sent home. They get a meaningful life lesson about parenthood. I would recommend adding them to any parenting or child development classroom.
Rosebeth –
I have enjoyed the real care babies for the past few months. They are functional and practical.
They are one of the best real world application devices for teenagers thus far!
We ordered 8 new babies and cannot wait to distribute them to students once the child development unit begins!
Jane Upton –
The Realityworks Real Care Babies are a must! Not only do they reinforce the skills, but they motivate students who are on the fence to become a part of the childhood pathway. Once students are involved in ECE most LOVE it and cannot wait for the next level. The Babies help sell the pathway and get students excited about children and their care. Not everyone will become a teacher, but nearly everyone will have children in their lives for whom they are responsible. Every student male and female should have to be a part of the Real Care Baby experience!
Julie Eyre –
We have been using Real Care Babies in our classroom since 2008. We just upgraded to the newer models and purchased 15 more for the classroom! It has really helped to grow the “Child Development” program at our school, because all of the students want to take home the “robot baby.” They really learn about how much time and effort it takes to care for an infant. I highly recommend this product. Easy to use and the students love it!
Isabella Mitchell –
I received the Real Care infant simulator at the end of last school year, but haven’t used it in a class yet. We have been using another updated model for years & I am excited to introduce them in class. The quality is outstanding & customer service was wonderful. Hoping to purchase more in coming years!
Brenda L Budler –
The RealCare Baby has been a great addition to my curriculum. Many times students tell me after experiencing the baby for 3 nights and 4 days that my class should be required. The impact is huge and they do take the job of parenting the RealCare Baby very seriously. I highly recommend this product to every relationship and/or child development program to give students the parenting experience and see many of the responsibilities it entails.
Lindsey Swiech –
My students are always excited when we have the chance to work with the RealCare Babies in our classroom. At first, they’re eager to take on the role of a caregiver, but as they begin to care for the babies, they quickly realize the true responsibilities and challenges of parenthood. This experience offers invaluable life lessons, giving students a firsthand understanding of what it truly means to be a parent. The RealCare Babies are an effective and impactful educational tool, helping students gain a deeper appreciation for the complexities of raising a child.
Lindsey Leuenberger-Klautsch –
My high school students and I absolutely love this program. It provides such a real-world experience for students and truly helps them to learn about the demands of a newborn baby and parenthood. Additionally, it gives them opportunities to practice problem solving and decision making both inside and outside of the classroom. I would, without a doubt, recommend this program to other FCS teachers, as it has made a difference in my classroom and in our Family and Consumer Sciences program.
Shea Lea Roberson –
Real Care Baby 3 Is a great learning experience for my high School students. It gives them hands on experience caring for babies
Lana Cole –
Students learn so much from using the babies and the curriculum is great. I would recommend this product. I had parents asking about them.
Nellie –
I love that part of your curriculum is geared towards middle school, because that’s real life. I’ve had previous students who were entering high school with children already. We need to support our students early on with this information and these resources.
Heather –
I recently purchased a reality baby for my classroom, and it has been an incredible addition to our learning environment. The students absolutely loved it and were genuinely excited to engage with it.
The reality baby provided a unique and effective way to promote higher learning among my students. It significantly enhanced their independent skills, as they had to take responsibility for the baby’s needs, just like a real caregiver would. This hands-on experience was invaluable in teaching them about time management, decision-making, and accountability.
Moreover, the reality baby served as an excellent tool for social-emotional learning. It encouraged empathy, patience, and cooperation among the students as they worked together to ensure the baby’s well-being. The discussions and reflections that followed were profound, allowing students to better understand and express their own emotions as well as recognize and respond to the emotions of others.
Overall, the reality baby has been a fantastic investment for my classroom. It not only captivated the students’ interest but also provided them with meaningful, real-world skills and emotional growth. I highly recommend it to other educators looking to enrich their students’ learning experiences.
janelle vazquez –
I recently purchased 10 RealCare Babies, at first it feels overwhelming, but it was pretty easy to get everything set up. I had one baby whose computer didn’t work. I contacted their chat specialist and it was super quick. They helped troubleshoot step by step. When it didn’t work they sent out a new computer. Shipping was quick. I love working with reality works
Britney Holtman –
I LOVE the Real Care Babies for my Parenting Class. It is a great life lesson for my students to understand how much care goes into taking care of a baby. Also, the Real Care Babies bring up a lot of great real life discussion questions from my students. My students schedule a weekend to take the baby home and then have to keep track of a journal of the care they provided for baby. When they return the baby, the talk about their experiences with the baby. My Parenting Class is ALWAYS full and I think it is mostly because of the Real Care Baby Simulators. I have also bought the other babies; drug addicted, alcohol fetal, and the shaken baby. Those babies are great for the earlier lessons I teach in Parenting about improper care. I appreciate RealityWorks with providing products that are hands on for the Family and Consumer Science Content.
Lisa Stith –
The RealCare Baby 3 has really been an eye opener for my students! They realized they have to rearrange their whole life to accommodate a baby. The reports that come back from the baby are quite helpful. I love that I can provide quiet time and make other modifications as necessary for each student.
Wendy Watson –
We just ordered the babies this year with grant money. My students LOVE them. I am still learning how to implement them in class. The company is GREAT and helpful! They respond quickly when I needed help!
Jodi –
I’m a Family & Consumer Science teacher. I use these simulated babies in my “Child Development” course. It truly is such a great hands-on experience for what it’s like to be a parent taking care of an infant. My students look forward to this project every year. Many of them have came back explaining how it was tough, but it’s taught them a lot about how maybe they aren’t necessarily ready at their age (13-18) for all the responsibilities that comes with having an infant. It also opens up their minds to how much their own families has sacrificed to take care of them when they were little.
Kendra –
We upgraded our class set of RealCare babies to the Baby 3 and have unlocked a new teaching tool in doing so. My students have gained a whole new perspective on the challenge of becoming a teen parent in one weekend. I am grateful to have given them this experience!
Kelli –
It is super easy to add and create a program for the babies. I feel that my students learn the most when they take what they learned all semester and take the babies home to care for the weekend.
Cate –
While not 100% accurate to taking care of a real baby, these babies are very close. Gives students a huge reality check!
Amy Abbott –
My students look forward to caring for the Real Care Baby every year. We practice in class until they are ready to take them home for two or three nights if they choose a weekend. It is amazing how quickly they realize how much work an infant is. Almost all of them come back and say that they are NOT ready to become parents. I am so thankful my school has allowed me to use them for over 20 years now. The curriculum that comes with Baby is also high quality.
Olivia –
The RealCare Baby is amazing! They are great quality and my students look forward to taking them home every year! It is a great experience for high school students to care for the RealCare Baby.
