Updated Shaken Baby Syndrome Training Simulator Teaches Soothing Technique

For years, the RealCare Shaken Baby simulator has been used for shaken baby syndrome training in schools, parenting classes, public health organizations, and more. The simulator provides a powerful visual that illustrates the effects shaking has on an infant’s brain. Originally meant as a demonstration tool for educators, students can now also use the simulator for hands-on practice with soothing crying infants.

Soothing with Swaddling

An important part of shaken baby syndrome training is learning how to soothe crying infants. With swaddling being one of the five S’s of soothing infants, we now include a special swaddling garment with Shaken Baby that students can use to swaddle the simulator. If the garment is applied correctly, the simulator’s lifelike cries will stop, indicating that the student successfully calmed the baby

Demonstrating the Dangers

Parents, childcare providers, and anyone else going through shaken baby syndrome training must understand the damage caused by shaking. Shaken Baby features a transparent head with lights and icons. The lights show the different areas of the brain damaged when you shake a baby. The icons indicate what each part of the brain controls.

Taking a Closer Look

Knowing that the brain is the key organ discussed in shaken baby syndrome training, we now include a Brain and Cerebral Arteries Model with Shaken Baby. The nine removable parts of this life-size model offer a deeper dive into the anatomy of the brain.

Understanding Shaken Baby Syndrome

Shaken Baby always included a lesson on shaken baby syndrome that can easily be incorporated into any shaken baby syndrome training environment. We’ve updated that curriculum and added more lessons on the anatomy of the brain and how to soothe crying infants. These new lessons add two more hours of important content that’s ready to teach with presentation slides, activities, and assessments.
