Elevate your students’ clinical skills with the Wearable Auscultation Trainer, designed to enhance training in auscultation, palpation, and patient care. This versatile device allows students to practice crucial skills such as rib palpation, stethoscope placement, and sound recognition by simulating real-life patient scenarios. Worn by students, standardized patients, or manikins, this trainer offers a range of practice opportunities. It features heart, lung, and bowel sounds that are engineered to accurately replicate real auscultation experiences when listened to through a stethoscope.
RealityScope™ attachments affix to any stethoscope
Anatomical landmarks built into the vest
Sounds play only when the RealityScope attachment is placed over corresponding auscultation sites
Demonstrate auscultation sounds to a group by listening through the app, or test individual students’ knowledge by listening through the RealityScope attachment
Includes a smart device and app programmed with 21 sounds and over 40 scenarios, such as bradypnea, hyperactive bowels and systolic murmurs
Use this trainer to help students learn to recognize sounds (and make important language connections):
Includes standards-based curriculum plus presentation slides, student activities and assessments
No electronic sounds in the background
Aids in scaffolding learning when students work with the simulator in practice mode and graduate to assessment mode before working with a real patient
Customize practice and assessment sessions with the smart device and app
FAQs
Career Preparation
What careers can the Wearable Auscultation Trainer help students prepare for?Auscultation training is essential to many career options: respiratory care practitioner, patient care technician, sonographer, nursing, EMT, and other healthcare providers that will be listening and diagnosing heart, lung, and bowel sounds.
What types of classes use the Wearable Auscultation Trainer? This trainer would be a benefit to many beginner RN, BSN, and EMS training courses. Some examples of specific classes include practical clinical skills, clinical foundations, pathology, cardiovascular education, and more.
Can this trainer be used for career exploration?
Yes! This trainer can be used for exploring a variety of careers in the health care profession. It works well with our FREE career exploration lesson plans for health science career exploration. The trainer can be used with the following scenario cards to deepen student understanding of related careers: EMT, Sports Medicine, Geriatric Patients and Nursing.
General Usage
How large are the auscultation zones on the trainer?
Based on varying auscultation points, the sounds can be heard over the appropriate anatomical areas. This trainer has over 100 RFID tags inside the vest to define areas corresponding to the associated auscultation sounds. Bowel sounds are represented over a large abdominal area, split into quadrants. Lung sounds are split up by lobe regions and are also heard over a large area. Heart sounds will be heard in a small area, aligning to the proper anatomical region.
How can I use the trainer torso and app with my students?
The app allows users to select what individual sounds to play in their respective trainer torso locations, as well as which conditions to implement in an assessment scenario. Students can conduct independent practice with the trainer torso, and instructors can use the app to edit the assessment mode and create desired scenarios for student testing.
What comes with the app?
The app includes a library of more than 40 scenarios that include a variety of heart, lung and bowel sounds. Those scenarios are divided into “practice” and “assessment” modes. In practice mode, students only hear sounds associated with the selected condition. In assessment mode, students hear normal sounds everywhere else except in the affected location on the trainer torso.
How does the RealityScope™ attachment work?
The RealityScope attachment fits on any stethoscope to turn it into a “smart device.” When users place the RealityScope attachment over corresponding auscultation sites on the trainer torso, the correct heart, lung or bowel sound will be heard as the RealityScope attachment communicates to the included app via Bluetooth Technology. Instructors can use the app to control which scenario the students are listening for.

Do I need a stethoscope to use the Auscultation Trainer?
Because the sound emitting from the RealityScope attachment is designed to be amplified through a stethoscope, we recommend students use their stethoscope with the Auscultation Trainer to ensure realistic practice sessions. Dual-Head Stethoscope 10-Packs can be purchased from Realityworks.
How do I select the best auscultation training package?
The best package will vary based on the need. If you wish to use the Wearable Auscultation Trainer only as a mode of teaching, then the first package that includes one of everything should be enough. If you wish to use the trainer as a hands-on learning tool among multiple groups of students, then we recommend the class pack.
Is there a risk of interference if there are multiple tablets in the classroom?
No, each RealityScope attachment only interacts with one tablet. Can the instructor customize practice scenarios? Yes! The app can be customized to highlight only certain sounds, or independent versus group practice sessions.
Do wearable simulators offer more privacy when practicing peer physical examinations?
Yes! Recent research tells us more than 80% of students indicated that a wearable simulator promotes privacy and reduces embarrassment. See the research here.
How many trainers would you recommend for a 20-student classroom?
We recommend two trainers for a 20-student classroom.
